Chief Executive Officer and President
Bernard Acoca has served as our Chief Executive Officer and President since March 2018. Mr. Acoca joins El Pollo Loco after seven years at Starbucks as a member of its Executive Team. From 2015 to 2018, Mr. Acoca served as President of Teavana, Starbucks’ global tea brand, where he was responsible for the overall operations of over 375 Teavana specialty retail stores in North America as well as its e-commerce business. Before that, Mr. Acoca served as Senior Vice President, Marketing & Category for the Americas, Starbucks’ largest region, where he was responsible for managing categories totaling $9B in sales. Additionally, he served as Chief Marketing Officer for the Americas for L’Oréal and spent 10 years at YUM brands in marketing roles of increasing responsibility.
Chief Financial Officer
Laurance Roberts has served as our Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer since July 2013. From 2008 to 2012 he was Chief Operating Officer for KFC, a major fried chicken restaurant chain and a division of Yum Brands. In 2008, he was also General Manager for KFC Restaurant Operating Company. Prior to that that, he spent three years as Chief Financial Officer of KFC, and three years as Chief Financial Officer of Yum Brands’ Pizza Hut joint venture in the United Kingdom. Mr. Roberts holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bucknell University.
Chief Operating Officer
Miguel Lozano has served as our Chief Operating Officer since March 2019. Mr. Lozano joins El Pollo Loco after 23 years at Starbucks, most recently leading Operations primarily in California. Since 2014, he was responsible for running 780 company-operated Starbucks stores in Southern California, which generated over $1.4B in sales. Mr. Lozano led a team of Regional Directors who consistently delivered best in class metrics in the U.S. business, making them one of the top performing regions in the system. Prior to Starbucks, Mr. Lozano worked for El Pollo Loco for six years, starting as a Restaurant General Manager and working his way up to Area Leader when the brand was owned by Flagstar Corporation. He and his family then became an El Pollo Loco franchisee, owning and successfully operating a restaurant in La Habra, Calif. for seven years.
